At Toki Explorers, we have created more than just a place for children to spend their day, we have created a purpose-built environment where children can feel at home, follow their curiosity and grow with confidence.
Every aspect of our centre has been thoughtfully designed, from the spaces they explore to the resources they discover, our environment provides opportunities for children to learn through play, build meaningful relationships, develop independence and make discoveries at their own pace.
We understand that children are constantly changing and developing, which is why our environment is designed to support their journey from those early years through to becoming confident and capable young learners. Our dedicated spaces for Infants, Toddlers and Preschoolers are carefully considered to reflect the different stages of development, interests and needs of each age group.
Our spaces invite children to touch, create, investigate, imagine, build, question and discover. There is room for energetic outdoor play, quiet moments of exploration, imaginative adventures and hands-on learning. Children are given the freedom to follow their interests, while our teachers are there to support, encourage and extend their learning.

Everyone's welcome
Our centre offers separate learning environments for our Infants, Toddlers and Young Children, these large spaces allow children to actively explore within an inclusive setting which provides quality care and education for all children.
Whãnau
All of our staff are committed and passionate in Early Childhood Education; this is reflected in the responsive relationships and daily interactions with children, parents and Whãnau. We value and encourage strong relationships with our parents and whãnau. We believe it is important to form these partnerships, valuing whãnau’s aspirations for their children.
Exploration
We encourage children’s learning through experimentation, exploration and play. Our project investigations holistically incorporate all aspects of the curriculum, which includes song, music, drama, art, movement and the natural world.
Outdoor Environment
We have an outdoor environment that is second to none! We believe that our well designed and generous playground stimulates the diversity of children’s play experience and contributes to their healthy development.
Dedicated Teachers
We are committed to ensuring all children are genuinely cared for by dedicated teachers who have the well being of the child as their priority. We provide a nurturing environment that has high quality education and care practices that are appropriate for all stages of a child’s development.
Transition to School
Our resources are personalised to the interests and developmental levels of the child, and provide opportunities for their extension. As they approach school age our programmes develop the very important foundation skills of numeracy and literacy. We understand that it is a important event when your child moves from preschool to school and this is reflected in the curriculum within our transition to school programme.
MEET SONYA & SIMON
Nestled in the countryside, Toki Explorers is a little different from our other centres – and that’s exactly what Sonya loves about it.
As Managing Director, Sonya had a clear vision for Toki: a beautiful country villa where children could experience the freedom of childhood. She has personally designed the interior spaces, carefully choosing the details and creating warm, homely environments filled with character, comfort and plenty of love.
Outside is where Toki really comes into its own. With lots of land, open spaces and room to run, explore, get muddy and enjoy the fresh country air, children have the opportunity to experience a truly special kind of early childhood.
And of course, Simon has had his hand in the outdoor spaces too – helping with the playground, projects and those maintenance jobs that inevitably come with a country property!
For Sonya and Simon, Toki is all about keeping childhood wonderfully simple – a beautiful villa, open countryside, caring teachers and a place where children have the space and freedom to just be children.
